Surgery is also used to expose a tumor so that a large dose of radiation can be given directly to the tumor or the tumor bed ( see "Intraoperative Radiation" ).
• To treat complications  Tumors or their treatments often suppress the immune system . This can lead to 
  infections, bowel perforations or obstructions that may require surgical treatment.
